Anacortes Real Estate

The city of Anacortes is located on Fidalgo Island, the only San Juan Island that is directly accessible by car. The second largest city in Skagit County, Anacortes is also home to the Washington State Ferries' northernmost terminal.

Its northwestern location provides Anacortes residents with a small town feeling and the benefits of a waterfront. Marine activities include saltwater fishing, sailing, kayaking, and whale watching. Beachcombing in Anacortes is popular because of the intriguing tide pool life. And the five major marinas in the area draw boaters from far and wide.

The historic downtown area of Anacortes has a quaint collection of specialty shops, antique stores, restaurants, and bakeries. Three independent booksellers offer hours of browsing pleasure. For family fun, try the community pool, bowling center, or kayak rentals. A casino provides gaming, dancing, and other adult entertainment.

Anacortes has 18 city parks, six lakes, and miles of walking and biking trails. Mount Erie Park rises 1,300 feet above Anacortes and provides panoramic views of the Skagit Valley and neighboring San Juan Islands. Three minutes from the downtown area is the Cap Sante lookout, with nearly 360 degree views of the Guemes Channel, snow-capped Mount Baker, and much of the cityscape.

Just nine miles south of Anacortes is Deception Pass State Park, a 4,134-acre marine and camping extravaganza. With 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline, and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline from its three lakes, the Park offers outstanding views, old-growth forest, and plenty of wildlife.

Anacortes real estate has much to be desired. Here, you can buy a houseboat and make the water your backyard. A small home with mountain, bay, and/or sound views is less than $250,000. Nicer view homes are available for less than $350,000. And stunning waterfront property can be bought for less than $1M. The average sales price was $420,148 for a single family or condo in February 2006.
