Ravenna Real Estate

North of the University District and east of Greenlake lies Seattle's Ravenna neighborhood. Named for a ravine that winds through the area, Ravenna is a charming community beautified by old growth trees and foliage.

A mix of architectural styles gives this neighborhood more character than the average city section. Cap Cod-style houses are intermingled with brick Tudors and Craftsman-style construction and the average house size is in the 1,100 square foot range. Single car garages are typical, if they haven't been turned into recreation rooms or home offices.

Because the median home age is 77 years, renovation construction is not uncommon. Ravenna real estate buyers often expect to update kitchens, bathrooms, exterior paint, and the occasional roof. As far as pricing goes, a cozy home with two bedrooms, one bath, and 960 square feet of living space will cost about $325,000. Ravenna real estate prices go up from there. The average sales price for a Ravenna home or condo in February 2006, was $453,847.

The majority of Ravenna residents are young families and University of Washington staff and students. Neighborhood taverns, coffee houses, second hand shops, and book stores are all within walking distance. The Whole Foods Market grocery store is a favorite with Ravenna locals who relish the organic produce, beautiful floral department, enormous full-service deli, and in-store bakery.

Although Ravenna is away from Seattle's congested downtown, its central location makes it quick to get around the city. Easy access to north and south Interstate 5, Highway 520, and many major arterials gives Ravenna residents the opportunity to work – and play – anywhere they please. Add this convenience to its relatively affordable housing prices and you'll find that Ravenna real estate is a winner!
